What to do in Fredericksburg, Texas?
Fredericksburg is a great outdoor destination for those who already live in Texas, but if you're an outdoors person, you may want to visit the city during your stay in Texas. There are a number of restaurants and community events that you may want to take part in during your stay. And, even if you're not into camping, you can definitely take advantage of all the gardens, wineries, and festivals that the city has to offer.
The Fall Creek Vineyards is also a great place to visit if you love taking tours of wineries. The vineyards were established in 1975, and are located fairly close to Austin, so you can visit Texas' capital for more activities and shopping during your stay. The vineyards have also won a number of awards, so you can be sure that you'll receive the best service and wines that Texas, and the world, have to offer.
You can also take advantage of the hill country festivals and events in the community that are going on in the city. For instance, the Llano Crawfish Open, which is a charity event that originated when deer hunters in the area decided to do something positive to give back to their community. Residents and visitors can spend the day in the park, eating as much crawfish as they can, and the money will go to help those who are less fortunate in the community.
If you plan on being in Fredericksburg during the holidays, there are plenty of things to do. You can visit the Texas Hill Country Regional Christmas Lighted Trail; the Main Street in Fredericksburg is elaborately decorated with lights that showcase the town's rich European heritage. Christmas in Fredericksburg is also a great family event to attend; historic buildings in the city are lit for the first time of the year, which makes the restaurants and shops much more attractive. The Eisbahn Holiday Ice Skating Rink also holds a holiday charity event that is fun to participate in—the skating rink sponsors an event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help raise money for research. The rink is in the open air, so you can still enjoy the sites of the town while you're skating. Admission fee is charged, but the fee includes skates, and the rink is open daily during the winter season.
After the Christmas season is over, you can revisit Fredericksburg for the wine trail events. The Wine Lover's Trail is a great romantic getaway that includes meals, wine and chocolate tastings, and a number of trails to walk. Wineries in the area that participate in this event include Fall Creek, Grape Creek, and Pillar Bluff.
